The end of Instax mini 8 era

October 14, 2017

The infamous pastel colored camera discontinued by Fuji Film.

The bad news about the camera started circulating around the release of Instax mini 9 back in April of 2017.
Both models mini 8 and 9 seemed similar, with just a few improvements on the mini 9.
On the outside the new version sports a selfie mirror, now constant with instax line, change was made in the wrist strap - now it is wider and more massive than its predecessor.

Instax mini 8 was released in November of 2012 and it became a huge part of the internet. The pastel colors and fun design contributed the camera becoming a staple in the life of fashionistas, bloggers, photographers and content creators.
Now the camera plays a role as decoration piece, part of flat lays or stand alone posts.
The pastel colors were in trend 5 years ago. With the micro blogging platform Tumblr, entering its pastel era.

At first the colors of the cameras were muted pastel pink and blue, black and white and a loud yellow.

The pink color of the mini 8 reminds us of the millennial pink (or tumblr pink). According to some people the color was born in February of  2014 with the release of Wes Anderson’s movie The Grand Budapest Hotel (the Hotel is painted several shades of pink) other think the trend was born in 2015 with the release of the rose-gold I phone.

Later the color range was extended with limited edition versions (some of them were called mini 8 plus), and in September of 2014 the company added two more colors to its standard line - raspberry and grape. Two colors that were a bit more vibrant and loud.

The new generation of instax is here now, and weather it be due to color trends change or better features and cheaper production. Fujifilm has decided to discontinue the internet`s instant camera sweetheart and now the end of the mini 8 era is a fact.
